Summer always seems to put everyone in a slightly better mood…the longer days and the warmer weather; the end of the school year for some and the lure of holidays. So, before everyone rushes off for a well-earned break, we thought we’d drop you a quick line or two about what we’ve been up to over the last six months or so.
Firstly, last week, at the prestigious Investment Week Fund Manager of the Year Awards, Mo was honoured with a 2019 Trailblazer Award. The award recognises investment managers that have gone above and beyond their job remit for the sake of their team, business and/or industry, for displaying excellence and innovation that has had a positive and meaningful impact. He was one of 16 nominees (out of a field of several hundred) to be awarded the standard. This is an amazing achievement and we are incredibly proud of him for standing out in the crowd and for being recognised by the industry for what he does.
As many firms move towards offering online or Robo based services, we continue to employ great people who are committed to looking after your needs. We will continue to build and grow our team to ensure we can maintain the highly personalised service we offer.
In saying this, we’d like to introduce you to the two newest members of the team. Marissa Harpa and Tom Scott joined us earlier this year, quickly slotting into the team and making their mark already. With Ali and Cecily now advising full time (more on this later), Tom has stepped in to bolster the client relationship team. Graduating with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering, he decided to pursue a career in financial wealth planning. In the past 6 months, Tom has already established himself as an integral part of the team and is attacking the financial planning exams (having already sat and passed RO1 & RO2) with gusto. His tech knowledge and ability to research anything in seconds has already earned him the nickname Techy-Tom. With more exams lined up for the summer, we are excited to see where his interests lie over the next 12 months. Marissa, also a graduate, joins us with a BA in Sociology from the University of Nottingham. Joining Nicola on the operations side of the business, Marissa brings a friendly, calm and can-do attitude to everything she does. Her attention to detail keeps the office running smoothly; and with a strong belief in equality and diversity in the workplace, Marissa is well positioned to champion the Carrington Culture internally and within the industry alike. To learn a bit more about them, look out for their profiles which should be up on the website shortly.
We have been lucky enough to win a few industry awards over the last couple of years, and we are particularly proud of winning the client service award at the Best Practice Adviser awards in 2018. Mike picked up this award up on behalf of Carrington but really it was on behalf of you, our clients because without you we wouldn’t exist. We are very proud to have won a client service award and it goes with our ethos of putting you first and providing great client service.
In addition to the Best Practice Award, over the last 12 months, we have also received the following accolades:-
- Awarded the New Model Adviser Top 100 firm award;
- We are finalists in the Women in Financial Advice Awards in the gender diversity category. The awards are being held this week…fingers crossed;
- We were shortlisted for Adviser Firm of the Year at the Money Marketing awards, and although we did not win, we are very proud to have made the shortlist;
- Carolyn and Cecily were nominated for the Women in Investments Awards;
- Ali and Cecily were nominated for the Professional Adviser New Talent Awards.
The awards look lovely on our wall; however, we are not complacent, and we must continue to move forward. We spend a lot of time looking at what we do for you and how we can improve. On this front, over the last 12 months, Ali and Cecily have been working behind the scenes to develop a service proposition aimed at the younger generation. These are people, very much like themselves, working professionally and in a phase of their lives where they are looking to plan for their future – building up savings pots, starting a family, perhaps getting a start-up off the ground. A very exciting time in anyone’s life and one in which getting the right advice can make all the difference. Having only recently soft-launched the service and started taking on clients, they are finding that there is a great deal of need for their advice and the feedback we’ve received from their meetings has been fantastic. As you know we work on a referral basis, so if you know of anyone who could benefit from any of our services or who may want an initial chat, please get in touch.
Another of our big announcements this summer is that we have just launched our Sustainable Growth Portfolio. This has been in the pipeline for some time now and we are thrilled to be offering it. The focus of this portfolio is to invest in funds that concentrate on environmental and social sustainability; and those that have a positive impact on us and the planet, but which, importantly, present a viable investment proposition. Look out for our note to follow, which will explore the philosophy behind the portfolio and give you more information on the funds we’ve selected and our expectations.
CHARITY OF THE YEAR
We are very excited to announce that this year we are supporting Full Circle Fund Therapies. This amazing charity was born out of personal adversity; and founder Suzanne Ruggles and her team have dedicated their lives to supporting children and adults with serious and life-threatening illnesses through complementary, integrated therapies. Not only do they provide hands-on therapies within the hospital, but they are also spreading their expertise through education and expanding their knowledge through extensive research.
We hope you will help us in fundraising for them this year so that they can continue to offer the support that is so desperately needed. To learn more about Full Circle please click here.
If you are looking for a new podcast to listen to over the Summer holidays, and like me (Mike), you enjoy listening to stories about people in business and how they made it, then Conversations of Inspiration could be for you. It is hosted by Holly Tucker, and although slightly over-enthusiastic, in my opinion, with her praise for her guests, she does interview some interesting people who created some impressive household brands. Take a listen here…The Podcast
Other than that, we hope, like us, you are enjoying all the sunshine and sport – pity about the Lionesses, but come on the cricket and rugby boys!
If there is anything we can assist you with, please be in touch.
